IELTS is the world's most widely accepted English language test, recognised by universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. For US universities, TOEFL is equally common, but many now accept IELTS too.

How to prepare smart
Take a full IELTS practice test first to know your baseline. Most students score 1–1.5 bands below their target initially.
Most test-takers lose marks in speaking. Practice with a partner or record yourself daily.
This single task is worth the most. Learn 5–6 strong essay structures and practise timed writing.
Skim and scan — read questions first, then find answers in the passage. Time management is everything.
